Before You Choose A Roofing Company, It Helps To
Know Who You’re Working With

A Letter From Jacey & Elliott Gray, Houston Roofing & Construction

If you’ve made it to this page, you’re probably trying to figure out who you’re really dealing with. We don’t blame you!

Because in our industry, that’s not always obvious. There are a lot of companies that look similar on the surface.

Same claims.

Same promises.

Same types of projects.

But how a roofing company actually operates (and what they believe) doesn’t always show up until you’re already in the middle of a project. So we’ll just tell you now, directly.

Where We Come From

We didn’t start in roofing—we started in commercial construction. Between the two of us, that’s more than 40 years spent building everything from schools and churches to industrial facilities and office buildings.

That background shapes how we approach every project today.

In commercial construction, details aren’t optional. Every trade has to work together. Safety matters. Coordination matters. And what gets built has to perform, not just pass inspection. And it has to hold up over time.

That’s the standard we bring to all roofing, including residential, commercial, and multi-family.

We’ve seen what it takes to get a project right from the beginning—clear planning, strong communication, and attention to the small details that tie the whole system together.

Because when those things are handled properly, the roof does what it’s supposed to do: it protects the building, performs consistently, and holds up for the long run.

That experience is what drives how we build today.

Why “Construction” Is In Our Name

That’s also why “Construction” is part of our name. We don’t see roofing as a product. We see it as part of a system that has to be built correctly.

So when we look at a project, we’re not just asking what needs to be replaced. We’re asking:

  • Why did this fail?
  • What else is contributing to the problem?
  • What’s the right solution for this specific property?

Because if you don’t answer those questions upfront…you’re just setting up the next problem.

Evolution of Houston Roofing & Construction

Houston Roofing & Construction was founded in 2009. We’ve seen and experienced and delivered countless projects with an approach to continuous improvements and the highest level of customer satisfaction to grow into who we are today.

What hasn’t changed is our commitment to our community as fellow Houstonians, delivering exceptional service, our culture, core values, and standards.

We don’t take this responsibility lightly.

What We Saw In This Industry

Bringing our broader experience into roofing helped us see how different this industry can be.

Roofing in Texas is an unlicensed trade. That creates a wide range of companies operating at very different standards.

Some do great work.

Others are built around speed, volume, or taking advantage of storm situations.

You’ll see it after any major weather event. Companies show up from out of town. They knock on doors. They sign contracts. They do rushed, sloppy work. And eventually, they move on.

Where We Draw The Line

We’ve also had people ask us to do things we’re not willing to do. Ways to avoid paying deductibles. Ways to “work around” the system. Ways to roof over an existing roof without tearing off to the decking.

We’ve told people directly: we’re not going to do that. And sometimes that means they go hire someone else.

We’re okay with that. Because we’re not trying to win every job. We are running a company we can stand behind.

How We Approach The Work

That perspective carries into how we handle every project.

We’re not here to cut corners or sacrifice our standards. We’re here to make sure the work is done correctly. That means:

  • slowing things down when needed
  • asking better questions
  • paying attention to details that don’t always show up right away

Because the goal isn’t just to finish the job. It’s to make sure the building performs better after we’re done.

How We Handle The Reality Of The Work

We also try to be realistic about something most companies won’t say.

This is a human business. Our crews are people. Our project managers are people. We’re people.

Things don’t always go perfectly.

What matters is how you handle it when they don’t. For us, that means owning it, fixing it, and improving the process so it doesn’t repeat.

What It Means To Be From Houston

We’re both from Houston. We’ve lived through the same storms you have. And if you’ve lived here long enough, you know what happens after a major storm.

People need help immediately.

Houstonians help Houstonians. We’ve all seen and experienced that, when we come together after a crisis.

We were in the office the day after Beryl—calling people back, scheduling inspections, trying to get tarps on roofs, doing what we can to help our neighbors.

You do what you can. And you try to do it the right way. This is our community, and you are our people.

Where We’re Going

We do want to grow. But not at the cost of how we operate.

We’re not trying to become the biggest roofing company in Houston. We’re trying to build to continue providing the same level of service to more people.

A company that keeps the same standards as it grows.

A team that knows what’s expected.

A process that holds up under pressure.
