History
Founded in 1886, GAF is the nation’s largest residential roofing material manufacturer with more than two dozen manufacturing facilities in North America and headquarters in Parsippany, NJ. GAF started as The Standard Paint Company and in 1892 created ready-to-lay asphalt roofing called “Ruberoid”.
Due to the new roofing material’s success, the company was rebranded as The Ruberoid Company and eventually merged with General Aniline & Film in 1967 adopting the name GAF.
